Tell us, who is Alison Hinds in 5 words? I am passionate, caring, fiercely loyal, loving and funny.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate? Everything about music makes me feel passionate. The sweet melody lyrics that can apply to anything in your life and capture any mood. The vibrations of music whether slow or fast reaches your center and speaks to you in a way nothing else can.

“Roll it gyal” has crossed border internationally, it’s the anthem for most Caribbean women, tell us about the inspiration behind that track? Firstly “Roll It Gal” was written by the beautiful and talented Shontelle Layne and the music was produced by producer Shelshok who unfortunately has since passed away. The inspiration was female empowerment. In talking to Shontelle, who at the time was an unknown writer, she was just excited to write something for me since she was, and still is, a huge fan of mine. She also knew that the empowerment of females was a well known theme for me and so she played into that strength and created this iconic song which has since become a classic! I want to take this opportunity to thank her for her ability to channel me so well the first time out. That’s woman power!!

How does it make you feel hearing women singing it loud and powerfully? I feel extremely happy but also humbled by the fact that women worldwide have been affected in a positive way by this song and when they sing it loud and proud it confirms to me that this is what I was created to do.

You have proved to be an amazing contributor to the Soca industry. You are coined as the “queen of Soca,” would you say the future of Soca is in good hands? I see a lot of new artists on the scene and I think Soca is in good hands so far, I’d just really love to see more females. There’s room for many more and I’m going to do my part to make that become a reality.

You have not aged a day since you started your career, what’s the secret to looking young? The secret to looking young is, there is no secret “she laughs”. For sure it takes hard work and focus, which I don’t always have but I try my best to stay on the path. Eating as healthy as I can (even though a have a serious sweet tooth) and training consistently. It may not seem that way to some but, I’m getting older like everyone else and it gets more challenging as you age and takes more effort but I’m determined! Also I do this for me! For no one else but me, it’s important to live a healthy lifestyle because you want to not to because you’re trying to impress people.

Who is your celebrity crush? My celebrity crush is Matthew McConnaghey. I’ve always loved his rugged good looks.
Any artist you would like to collaborate with that you haven’t already? One of the artists I’ve wanted to work with for a while is Tarrus Riley. He’s amazing and I can’t wait till we get a song for that collaborate and of course Rihanna!

What have you been working on? I’ve been working on new music that I’m truly excited about and can’t wait for my faithful fans and followers to hear and experience. Also for my brand expansion, I have lots of exciting stuff is on the way.
