Dee FitWeigh! Khadja ‘Deeja’Antoineis a fitness enthusiast hailing from the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago. Her passion for helping people propelled her to dedicate her social media account to fitness, wellness, and positivity.“I believe that everyone has what it takes to attain the body they desire, and this comes by changing the things they do daily. I know how being overweight can affect many aspects of your life and I want to help people discover the benefits and joys of training that helped me become the person I am today.”
Deeja officially started her fitness journey in 2020 after the first phase of the lockdown in Trinidad and Tobago caused her to overeat and gain a few extra pounds. “For as long asI’veknownmyself, I’ve always been passionate about sport and fitness, but it never translated to gains because I’m also very passionate about food. I viewed food negatively though, so I would under-eat when preparing for a trip or event, then binge eats after, then under-eat again. It became a ridiculous weight fluctuation cycle.”I was fed up with that cycle, so I re-joined the gym and immersed myself in a new lifestyle and have never regretted it. I was able to lose body fat and gain muscle because of my consistency and the understanding that food is nourishment. I am still amazed at times when I see what my body is capable of and how it is transforming.
Deeja currently trains five days per week at D Dial Fitness Gym in Trinidad. She incorporates a mixture of strength training and cardio each day.“For me, a healthy lifestyle is much more than just lifting weights. It’s about stretching, warming up, eating healthily, getting the necessary rest and enough sleep.”Whether your goal is to lose body fat, improve your body image, or just lead a healthier lifestyle, I would like to share five things that helped me move in the direction of my goals.
- Eating 80% Whole Foods and 20%“soul” foods. This simply means, eating more foods that are not processed or processed minimally (fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains)over their less nutritious counterparts.
- To Stay hydrated–I drink at least 3L of water daily(Getting a personalized water bottle helped)
- Moving my body–Lifting weights/doing cardio (Find some type of physical activity that you enjoy)
- Be consistent(Show up even when you don’t feel like it–that’s when it matters most)5. Be patient and trust the process.
