In this candid conversation, Dexta Daps offers a glimpse into his creative process, inspirations, and the Trilogy album.  Join us as we embark on a captivating exploration of Dexta Daps’ musical journey, guided by his personal experiences and insights.

Q. What were some key musical inspirations or influences that played a significant role in shaping the sound of your trilogy? 

A. In addition to my fans, I’m forever influenced by music. From Dancehall to Reggae, Hip Hop, Afro beats, R&B, etc. These influences, along with my personal experiences, helped shape the musical landscape of the “Trilogy” album.

Q. Your albums often feature collaborations with other artists. Could you highlight a particular collaboration on the trilogy that was especially meaningful or challenging, and how it contributed to the overall vision of the project?

A. “Friendship sale” … chronic law… that song helped me to express my opinion on certain behaviors of humans, and how to maneuver around it.

Q. 2024 started with a lot of intense energy. What do you think of clashing in dancehall you think it hurts or helps?

A. Non-stop energy lol! I think it both helps and hurts. It has its pros and cons, but it’s not for everyone. 

Q. How do you feel about the current state of dancehall and its global reach?

A. I think dancehall is here to stay. In our ever-changing world, it may be perceived, consumed or regarded differently. However, the essence of dancehall music is the foundation for many of the new genres. 

Q. Can you tell us about your creative process when it comes to crafting your lyrics and melodies? 

A. My creative process is mostly spontaneous. I draw inspiration from real-life experiences and emotions. It’s always about staying true to myself and allowing the music to naturally unfold. 

Q. How do you balance staying true to your roots while also appealing to a broader audience?

A. By understanding & knowing the importance of balance and by staying true to myself. When you’re authentically you, others are able to see themselves in you. 

Q. What’s next for you in terms of upcoming projects or collaborations?

I have some great projects in the works, I’ll be revealing soon & the Trilogy Tour 2.0

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why? —I would choose Jesus. I have questions about what is happening down here. I’d also like to know if he gets tired of people calling his holy name.
